Review of Agenda
- Minutes from the previous meeting will be sent out.
- The next meeting is scheduled for May 14th, but has been changed to April 30th.
- School Council Forum was discussed.
Finances and Budget
- 21 Chromebooks were cost-shared with the school board.
- The current balance from food baskets and food sales is $973.
- The current school council balance is $2779.91.
- The balance will be reduced by graduation expenses.
Parent Reaching Out (PRO)Grant
- The school is applying for a grant.
- The grant aims to address social inclusion, racism, hate, and discrimination; support identity affirmation; and engage parents and community voices.
- The deadline for the grant is unknown.
- The idea to partner with other schools for presenters was discussed.
School Events
- Junior and Intermediate volleyball teams attended area tournaments.
- Intermediate girls’ basketball finished second in the area.
- Intermediate boys’ basketball finished first in the area.
- Chess team results were shared.
- Next tournament is April 10th and 11th.
- Junior basketball, badminton, and track and field are upcoming.
- Reach for the Top team missed a spot at regionals; they hosted a tournament with 16 schools. Rogers came in fifth out of 42 schools.
- The Terry Fox Run raised more than $4,000.
- Upcoming events:
- Primary Concert: April 3rd
- Arts Night (Junior and Intermediate): April 10th
- Track and Field Day: May 21st
- Family Fun Night: May 22nd (tentative)
- PA Day is June 9th (report card day).
Family Fun Night
- The council meeting date was changed to April 30th, with an additional meeting on May 7th to finalize plans for the Family Fun Night.
- Raffle baskets will be part of the event.
- Each grade will be assigned a theme for the baskets (e.g., Grade 1 - Board Game Night, Arts and Crafts).
- Last year there were 56 baskets.
- The idea of having face painting done by high school arts program students was suggested.
- Other activities mentioned were soap making, cotton candy, and a candy stand.
- A student-teacher ball hockey game may be included.
- All students receive one ticket, and additional tickets are given for perishable food donations.
Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
- Teachers are engaged in PLCs throughout the year.
- Teachers are participating in professional learning focused on equity, inclusion, and building identity-affirming spaces.
Teacher Appreciation Lunch
- The council discussed organizing a teacher appreciation lunch.
- They will investigate how other schools handle this.
- Cash online was suggested as a way to collect funds.
- June was suggested as a potential time for the lunch.
Miscellaneous
- The weekly newsletter (e-blast) keeps parents updated on school events.
- A new TV has been installed in the hallway to display pictures.
- The previous caretaker, Miss Kathy, retired.
- A parent inquired about corporate-funded curriculum due to their son receiving dairy stickers. The school board does not allow corporate advertising.
- Pita Pit is a new lunch option for students.
- Volunteers are not needed for Healthy Hunger days.
